Restoration costs could exceed current budgets without preventive steps, according to reports presented at the session.

Biologists warned that unchecked traffic risks permanent loss of biodiversity and scenic value that supports regional tourism. Data from monitoring stations confirmed accelerated erosion on three primary paths during peak summer months.

Proposed Measures and Stakeholder Views

Options include seasonal closures, rerouting to durable paths, and permit caps on group sizes. Tourism representatives voiced concerns over lost revenue while environmental advocates called for immediate enforcement and fines for off-trail activity. A vote on a pilot program is scheduled next month after public hearings.
